What I've not tried to stop this PC from acting up the way it is.
I've a long string of dialogue going on with a very helpful tech forum. Last night a casual comment set me thinking and when I got home this afternoon, I tried it and thought I'd cracked it for all of half an hour and then it was locking up at random all over again.
I've rebooted in safe mode and it still does it. Now I am too tired to give it any more attention today.
Came back from seeing Tim, popped into the newsagents and he enquired "had a police raid in the building haven't you" ? Of course I knew nothing of this, but when I came round to the entrance, there was indeed a large police van in the parking bay and the outer door was open. I was greeted by a policeman coming down the stairs, he gave me a friendly hello.
The door to the flat on the same floor as mine was open, only occupied for a week or so. No idea what has been going on, but it is indicative of the type of scum these idiot Indians who now own the building, will rent out to. Nutters upstairs and God only knows what or who we've now got next door.
Nice to discover I'd got some post that wasn't bills. A package from Channie in New York.
A nice fridge magnet with a scene from 1930's New York construction.
Also a nice pencil eraser in the shape of a hundred dollar bill.
There were some nice NY postcards, I think Channie's been down to the lower east side tenement museum again.
As reported, I already have a big enough headache with this troublesome PC, so imagine my joy on Sunday afternoon, to have the welder on the phone crying about his laptop what was playing up too.
He brought that over to me last night and I worked on it till late. I have it working pretty well, but the boot up time is pretty long. I really thing next time it goes pear shaped, he needs bite the bullet and let me reinstall Windows.
Part of the welder's problem was a conflict between AVG anti virus and Windows Defender. I've substituted AVG with the latest version of Avast and pretty impressive it is too. Just hope the picky little welder is happy with it, because Pat will back me up on the fact that he can be a right little fuss pot.
I found myself arsing around fixing problems on Tim's netbook this morning. I was only thinking on Sunday, how I think I'd like to give up computers altogether and take up something more simple like knitting, where there's less to go wrong.
