My first visit to Bob the Butcher in 2010, - 5 outside and only marginally warmer in the shop, the chicken breasts were freezing in their trays and Bob wasn't faring much better but he was in good spirits.
There was no heating on either the bus into town or the Darlaston bus. The latter I understand, as it is the first bus of the day and has only just come into service, but I get the Birmingham bus in to town and that's been on the road for at least an hour.
Bob's glad Christmas is behind him, his most stressful time. I was telling him about Charlie Chalk's fascination with his new slow cooker, the other day he even put sprouts in it ! I've bought some stewing beef and will be powering mine up early in the week. Nothing like a hot warming stew when the temperature is as low as this and so easy to do.
Won't be venturing into the kitchen much today, I'm not enjoying sitting here by the window. When I was waiting for the bus back to Walsall, it started to snow quite heavily, but it only lasted ten minutes and fortunately the bus was right on time.
I've been back an hour and twenty minutes and I've not thawed out yet. Think I'm going to go an hug the fire.
