I've always loved doing this sort of thing, but these days, you have to plan a bit longer when money is short.
It's Pat's birthday on November 1st and her wedding anniversary with that bit of ruff she married.
It's OBC's birthday on the 22nd, to I set a date when I can get them all together along with Irene (Welder's other wife) and now Darlo who knows OBC and the welder and will add to the proceedings.
Saw the welder a couple of hours ago, yampy as ever. It's been a long day. Had my power brekky with Darlo, I was up at 6 sorting stuff out and then doing our brekky wich included a pack of Maynard's bacon donated by OBC.
Bacon doesn't come any better than Maynards, especially when it's Staffordshire Black (which is cured in molasses), so when all this is, is a couple of pals who've known each other for a little more than 30 year, getting together for some decent bacon, some good sausages from Bob the Butcher and all those little bits on the side, beans, scrambled egg and wholemeal toast and of course, some decent coffee, what more is there to say ?
I'd like to tell you what I am planning for the 14th, but I don't want some people knowing in advance, so I will just put photos of them pigging it instead.
One day next week, I am off to the Wing Yip in Birmingham, something of a pilgrimage for me. The moment you walk in, the smells hit you. Then I go on a search for knockout stuff. Main thing on next week's list being the cans of really thick Hoi Sin sauce which comes in at just over a pound a can. Buy "branded" hoi sin in the supermarket, it's twice the price easily and is basically shite.
When you go to Wing Yip, you need to get there early, because the Chinese do shop there and it gets busy. I shall be getting fresh wun tun wrappers (you won't find those in Walsall), sweet chilli sauce (Yeo's of course) it is beyond compare.
OBC calls me a snob because I say I will only get my stuff from Wing Yip, but I never hear such protest when he's sitting at the table.
Bit like the welder, he's just a fat little oinker.
(of course I fall into that category too and I'm the one who's feeding them) - you know I'm looking forward to this date...

Wing Yip is marvellous. The only place I know you can buy duck feet, frozen...
