A bit under two weeks ago, my mobile rang in the afternoon. This bloke enquired is that Keith ? and when I answered it was, he told me he had been reading my cv online.
I can't be the only person who's had someone contact them out the blue with some proposal or other which boils down to them wanting to part you with some money for something wonderful they can do for you.
As the guy continued, it seemed that this was not one of those calls. He was looing for someone with my background and skills to help develop a new market for an industrial product.
I arranged to go see him last Wednesday. Scrubbed up nicely, borrowed EFPV off OBC so I didn't get wet in the pouring rain. OBC gave me a very nice character reference which helped me deal with the long period of unemployment and my cancer period.
It all went very well and I did wonder if I might be in emplyment this time next month. He told me that he wanted to see another guy who works for one of his competitors, but he didn't think he would take a job with a 12 month contract when he is settled in a paid job already.
Well you guessed it, he did and I got the dear John by e mail this afternoon.
I understand the commercial decision, new guy is coming along with a potential list of customers which I would have had to discover. That's going to be a time saver on the project.
I've cancelled the order for the Aston Martin and type this sitting in the bath with some razor blades and an electric fire perched on the edge...
Welder phoned me to try cheer me up after he had my text telling him about the dear John. What a kind little welder he is.
