I didn't think I would get one out of them, as my relationship with Vodafone had been far from smooth over the years.
Monday was some sort of anniversary day with regards to contract dates and I was advised to talk to them about getting a deal out of them. The rental for this phone is higher than I paid for my Nokia and I just don't have more money to spend on a phone, so I asked if I could trade off some minutes for the handset I wanted.
I've been with them for 13 years and it did seem to have some influence, so they granted me the phone and didn't alter my plan at all. Phone came on Tuesday and I have been in a trance with it ever since.
My lock screen is lovely old Clevedon pier
It does everything quite excellently. Of course it makes and receives phone calls, though I've not learned how to successfully assign ringtones like Homer simpson's d'oh to Wally the Welder, or edit the numbers off the SIM on to the phone so I can add e mails and stuff.
I have got my GPS sports tracker app on for my walking and on the Android system, there are many improvements, much easier to use the built in features like the camera when the app is in use.
The camera has exceeded expectations both as a stills cam and as a video. I didn't say so at the time, but yesterday's abusive ducks video was done with the new device then uploaded to You Tube and embedded to use here. The video quality (great on here), is pretty stunning on the phone in higher definition.
BBC I Player is knockout as is the BBC news feed.
Worse than expected is the battery life, which is pretty shocking. A spare battery is going to be a must and fortunately is quite cheap off E Bay. I'm used to the "toys" on a smartphone using the power, but this is a letdown on a great piece of kit, a bit like a Ferrari with a three gallon perol tank !
I see you can get a so called higher capacity battery off E Bay, but it's in the region of twenty quid, a bit pricy.
Because Android is a Google op system, the phone interfaces with Google toys and services faultlessly, G Mail, maps and streetview and G+. May find myself using the latter on that list more from the mobile device than I do from the laptop and big puter.
I see Google Buzz is getting the elbow.
Fortunately not a sign of dedicated facebook apps or buttons anywhere on the device, but it will interface with Twitter and other services via the "social hub" feature.
Charlie Chalk's getting more frothed than one of my cappuccinos about it, as he is changing his phone soon and has this model under consideration and talking to Wireless Tone last night, he confessed "I've got a boner just thinking about it" and "I'd find the S2 more arousing than the Screwfix catalogue", something he's always enjoyed more than Penthouse for one handed reading.
Haven't set up my moblogging for the soapbox on it yet. Been doing other stuff like my walking, fitting RAM chips to Helen's puter, vacuuming donkey and mopping the kitchen floor.
It's a lovely phone and boy what a learning curve it presents. Keep reading.
as for my poor pace this morning (see above). I went out with half a loaf of Warburtons in my bag and te detination of Hatherton lake in the arboretum to appease those abusive ducks. I did loo outside before leaving and saw the ground was wet, but didn't see it was actually raining which it was.
By the time I got to the leather museum (saddlery, not kinky), I was wet, so I crossed over and went to Tesco and then came home, so as you see my .77 of a mile and pace well under my 3.5 - 4 mph was affected by the weather.
Will see shat I can do tomorrow.
