After this past couple of days, I know exactly how DP Gumby (pictured) felt.
Friday, the reason I was using the bus during the main part of the day, was to visit the Bellwether pub in Wednesbury who are taking out an ad in the upcoming Kils n Kins and have a beer festival coming up in October. I became roving reporter for the day.
I've been to this pub several times both with Charlie Chalk and Darlo Sue. Last time I was there I had Penne Carbonara and it was about the best carbonara I've ever had, real bacon pieces, yum !
I was really impressed by how professional and switched on both the shift manager Aaaron was, but the staff in general. The piece I've written and formatted with photos this afternoon bangs the drum about the beers on offer, the upcoming festival and dispels the myth I've heard many time which is, Wetherspoons beer is so cheap, because it is all coming up to the end of its shelf life.
Utter rubbish said Aaron who offered to take me down the cellar to show me the dates on the barrels of beer and cider.
Branch are having a "social" there in November, so the piece airing next month should put aside any fears they might have about crap beer. This pub is already stocking local Holdens ales (the brewery a hop and a sniff from OBC's chateau on the hill in Sedgley) and a highly respected brew.
Working on the magazine and going out doing the reporting and photographing, has turned my brain to mush. I have to work in four page multiples for the printer in Warwick. There I was a couple of hours ago thinking I'd just about cracked it and I realised I'd missed the half page ad and supporting article on the Bartons in Birmingham which I had to really hustle to get for this issue. Then there's a half page I need hold back for the Backyard Brewery who said they'd go with the mag at the last minute, so now I find myself with three pages to fill. Should be able to do it without it looking like I was scraping round for material.
Won't be up to much tomorrow, as I have physiotherapy for my neck, shoulders back... Don't know what sort of physical state I will be in after that.
I wasn't at all well yesterday, felt like I had been pelted with baseball bats. I thought I might have caught something off that rancid bitch I was sitting close to on the bus on Friday. Also, I've developed something very painful and black on the bottom of my left heel that looks like a bruise. No Idea how that came about and whether it is only a bruise. I am slightly suspicious it might be those new pumps I wore on Friday (Converse hi tops as they are called). Average Jane said they looked cool on me, but Steve Mays just exclaimed "sweet baby Jesus"... Quite what he was driving at I don't know and he hasn't explained himself yet.
Back to socks and sandals I reckon.
