Shropshire has long been one of my favourite counties, since I lived there for some time as a child, staying with my sister, during one of my mum's extended stays in hospital. I was there for long enough to go to school there, at Teagues Bridge County Primary, where I discovered school can be enjoyable.
In summer we had lessons outside, the school dinners were lovely and so were the teachers. The school stood in the shadow of the Wrekin (pictured), where we once went on a field trip.
The Wrekin is a large hill in the county and probably the last in England as the county neighbours Wales. I remember in my late teens after I'd passed my driving test, I returned to and climbed the Wrekin a few times (450 metres of it), something I don't think I could manage today.
I mention all this, because on one of those crap daytime TV shows with the word "house" in the title, I just discovered that the Wrekin is said to have inpsired J R R Tolkein with inspiration for middle Earth and he regulalrly climbed the hill himself as a lad.
Bit tired today, but I was out around 5:45 and did 2.3 miles. I did some washing, gave the hob and grill a good scrubbing and cleaned up elsewhere in the kitchen. Certainly no energy left for climbing anything !
