My brother and Anita lead a complex life, made moreso by modern technology. When I came out of hospital, I went over and set up my old HP PSC 2410 printer, copier fax. In fact when I had it singing like a bird, I remembered just what a fine piece of kit is was compared to the Epson I replaced it with.
Because they only have one line which uses ADSL filters for the broadband AND they have an answering machine, I set the HP to only answer faxes manually, or else every time the phone rang, it would be jockeying for superiority over the answering system (which is used more than faxes would be).
My brother was waiting for a fax to come in from Manchester and so just pressed the illuminated fax button on the HP and went out, expecting to find a piece of paper with words on hanging out of the machine on his return.
Trying to explain it to him, Anita and competing with the psychopathic dog who was howling in the background, I just proposed they arrange for the fax to come to me, which I then converted and e mailed to them !
In addition to this, Anita asked me to look at an online application form for a job, on a website. It was in PDF. I then had to explain that the form is online for printing, it hasn't been designed to complete online.
But that got me thinking...
Here's where I went: http://www.pdftoword.com/
I followed the simple instructions, where the system uploads the PDF from your machine, then you type in the e mail address you want the Word doc to come to. It did take a couple of hours for the document to come back, but when it did, all the boxes, were now fields where you could type in your details and the formatting compared ot the original PDF was spotless.
There doesn't seem to be a limit on the number of documents you can convert online (I suppose that's why they make you wait). You can download and trial a Pro version on your machine which costs $ 99 (which compared to some of Adobe's prices, seems pretty reasonable to me).
